Types of Skin Rejuvenation Procedures

There are many treatments to choose from to reach your goal of younger-looking skin, the elimination of unsightly blemishes, or evening of skin tone. Traditionally, these treatments fall into two categories:

  1. Ablative – highly effective but severe treatments requiring invasive techniques and significant recovery time.
  2. Non-ablative – much more gentle and requiring no recovery time, but multiple treatments are necessary to achieve the desired results.

But now, the FDA has approved Fraxel Laser Treatments – which marks a comprehensive yet gentle alternative for lasting skin rejuvenation.

What is Fraxel®?

Fraxel® is a non-invasive cosmetic laser used to improve the look of your skin by activating your body’s own ability to heal itself. In addition to improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles, Dr. Jain also uses Fraxel to:

  • Even skin tone
  • Reduce pore size
  • Improve the appearance of acne scars
  • Minimize age and sun spots

*Individual Results May Vary

A Fraxel Laser Treatment uses the body’s own healing power and skin cell regrowth abilities to treat a variety of skin issues, including:

  • Discoloration
  • Acne scarring
  • Wrinkles
  • Laugh lines
  • Large pores

Dr. Jain also uses Fraxel to treat melasma and actinic keratosis, which is a precancerous skin condition that causes crusty skin growths.

How does Fraxel work?

The highly specialized laser penetrates only the top layers of your skin. Its dual action resurfaces the top layer to reveal the younger skin underneath, while stimulating the production of collagen, which is the protein that makes your skin more youthful, to renew and rejuvenate your look.

As you get older, your body produces less collagen, which causes your skin to have less support, leading to lines, wrinkles, and sagging. The Fraxel laser slightly injures your skin to increase production of the youth-promoting protein and improve the look and health of your skin.

What to Expect During Treatments

During treatment, Dr. Jain first places protective eye wear over your eyes. She then places the Fraxel hand piece over your skin, and the pulses of light penetrate your skin to remove the top layer and stimulate the production of new skin. You may feel some mild discomfort as the laser glides over your skin.

The cosmetic procedure takes 15 to 45 minutes depending on the area you’re having treated. The number of treatments you need varies, ranging from one to five. As an esthetician, Dr. Jain works with you to develop an appropriate treatment plan to help you get the best results.

After Fraxel Treatments

You may experience what feels like a mild sunburn immediately following treatment with Fraxel, but the symptoms disappear within a few days. You should start to see an improvement in your skin within a few weeks after treatment. Dr. Jain recommends you use sunblock and other protective measures following Fraxel laser treatment to protect your skin and improve the longevity of the procedure.
